Stop 1: Adadi Mariam Rock-Hewn Church
Your first stop is the unique rock-carved church of Adadi Mariam, one of the few still-operational rock-hewn churches in Ethiopia. The church was built in the 12th–13th centuries AD and carved from a single block of rock. Its history is closely connected to King Lalibela, who is believed to have built the church during his journey to the sacred Mount Ziquala in the 12th century, as a commemoration of that pilgrimage. Explore the interior of the church and learn about its religious significance, architectural style, and centuries-old traditions that are still practiced today.

Next, visit Tiya, one of Ethiopia’s most important archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tiya is among the most significant of approximately 160 archaeological sites discovered in the Soddo region, south of Addis Ababa.
The site contains 36 ancient monuments, including 32 carved stelae decorated with mysterious symbols, many of which are still not fully understood.
These monuments are believed to be remnants of an ancient Ethiopian culture whose exact age and purpose have not yet been precisely determined.
Lunch
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before beginning the return journey.
Afternoon – Return to Addis Ababa
After lunch, drive back to Addis Ababa, enjoying the Rift Valley scenery and rural landscapes along the way.
